Woodgrove High School Update

Dedication Anniversary Celebration …

Woodgrove had its dedication anniversary celebration the last week of October. Events included student spirit week, a powder puff football game (congratulations Junior Girls 2-0), an exciting football game between the two newest Loudoun County high schools – Woodgrove vs Tuscarora – and a celebration dance on Saturday night (regretfully postponed ‘til November 5 due to snow).

Sports Wise, Woodgrove Has A Lot to Celebrate and A Lot to look Forward To …

Junior Sarah Hardison has been invited to attend a week of training at the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Soccer Team.

*Freshman Volleyball team stats are good – 12-5.

*Freshman Football team stats are great – 9-0.

*There’s a big football match up, Woodgrove vs Loudoun Valley – Freshman and JV – November 1 and Varsity – November 4.

*Congratulations to the competition Wolverine Cheerleading team. They have placed 4th in each of their recent competitions.

* At the 34th Annual Frank Keyser Invitational at Boonsboro High School in Boonsboro, Md.: all teams raced in the large school categories in their respective divisions; JV Girls team placed 2nd of 7 teams: Carson Kiely was 2nd, Kirsten Gerczak, 4th and Elise Chaudet, 9th in a field of 97 runners; JV Boys team placed 3rd of 13 teams: Grady Workman was 7th, Kevin Barr, 10th and Robert Kramer, 12th in a field of 139 runners; Varsity Girls team placed 2nd of 17 teams: Alex Juzbasich, 8th, and Katherine Bruton, 13th out of a field of 111 runners; and Varsity Boys team finished 4th of 19 teams, up from 10th last year: Evan McCarthy was 4th.

In the Oatlands District Match Up: Girls Placed 2nd Overall and Boys Placed 6th Overall. Senior Audrey Houghton placed 3, Senior Evan McCarthy placed 2nd, Senior Lydia Cromwell placed 4th, Junior Peter Volpone placed 17th, and Junior Alexandra Juzbasich placed 19th.

We Rocked Halloween …

Woodgrove was represented by the Marching Wolverines, our mascot Walter the Wolverine, and the Cheerleaders in the Annual Leesburg Halloween Parade on October 31.

PACK A PICKUP: WOODGROVE CARES – Sponsored by WHS PEER Students, Oct. 31 – Nov. 4.

Please help us support the Western Loudoun Food Pantry which serves the needs of about 30 local families a month. You may bring items to WHS during the week or look for our Pickup at the Nov. 4 Woodgrove/Valley Varsity Football Game where donations will also be received.
Pack a Pickup Most-Needed Items:

Food: peanut butter & jelly, pasta & sauces, macaroni & cheese, canned tuna, chicken or ham, stew or soup – canned or dry mix, rice & instant potatoes, juice (bottles, boxes, mix), canned or dried fruit, cereal, breakfast bars, Bisquick or pancake mix/syrup, packaged mixes, side dishes, canned Vegetables.

Non-Food: soap, detergent, toilet paper, tissues, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, cleaning supplies, paper towels, wash cloths/towels, shampoo, diapers/wipes.

Notes: Cash and check donations are also welcomed and appreciated. Checks made out to Bloom or Giant will be used to purchase $20 gift cards. One gift card is given to each pantry “shopper” to purchase perishable items.

The PTSO ANNUAL CITRUS SALE kicked off Friday, October 28. Online orders end midnight on Wednesday, November 16. Please help support WHS by purchasing Florida Indian River Groves Citrus from any WHS student or simply go online to the Woodgrove High Schools website and click on Parents, PTSO, and then the link to the Citrus Sale.

The funds raised will allow the PTSO to continue its mission to enhance the Woodgrove experience by providing funding and materials to students, teachers, and other projects and activities to promote a positive school experience.

The INAUGURAL PROJECT GRADUATION EVENT is planned for June 12, 2012 at Adventure Park USA. The Project Graduation Program began in 1987 and is a celebration across our state committed to promoting a safe, supervised and a memory-filled All Night Graduation Celebration in an alcohol-free and drug-free environment. As a new school with our first graduating class, there is no existing fund for the event. Woodgrove’s Project Graduation Committee is asking for community assistance to help make this event possible.

Individuals, families, businesses, corporations or organizations that desire to contribute a tax deductible monetary donation or gifts are asked to contact Committee Chair Rhonda Wells.

HELP BUILD “THE WOODGROVE GRILL” AND BE A PART OF HISTORY. Ensure that your name will be a part of Woodgrove High School for generations to come! When you purchase a brick, your name will be engraved on it and be used to build “The Woodgrove Grill” on the south end of the Football Stadium for use for all types of school activities and functions.
