On Thursday April 18, 2013, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) held its annual Deener-Carr Memorial Award ceremony. During the ceremony, 16 volunteers who have served Loudoun County for 20 or more years were recognized.
For 20 years of service: David Beatty, Jeffrey Frazee and Marni Frazee – Loudoun Rescue; Vincent Chirichella – Round Hill Fire-Rescue; Jen Ferguson and Paul J. O’Brien – Sterling Rescue; Julian Haddad and George Short – Sterling Fire; David Fierstien – Leesburg Fire; Russell Furr – Aldie Fire; Deliah Ann Hardy and Elaine Walker – Lovettsville Fire-Rescue; Robert Lohr – Purcellville Fire; Barbara Murphy and Stanley Murphy – Ashburn Fire-Rescue; and John Ramsey – Hamilton Rescue
For 25 years of service: John Anderson – Sterling Fire; Karen Aronhalt – Philomont Fire; Amanda Bowers, Donald Embrey and Richard Reaves – Purcellville Rescue; Peter Comanduras – Leesburg Fire; Earl Haussling – Loudoun Rescue; and John Hockman – Lovettsville Fire-Rescue
For 30 years of service: Jody Marker Jr. – Hamilton Rescue; and Richard Rodgers – Hamilton Fire
For 35 years of service: Robert Moore – Hamilton Fire
For 40 years of service: Terry Frye – Leesburg Fire
For 45 years of service: John Flippo – Aldie Fire
For 50 years of service: Kenneth Graham – Hamilton Fire
LCFR also recognized five fire and rescue providers for their outstanding service through the Hall of Fame, John C. Carr Memorial Award, and the Clark J. Deener Memorial Award.
The Hall of Fame recipients provided more than 20 years of service and made significant lifetime contributions to the enhancement of LCFR. The 2013 Hall of Fame recipients are: Sheila Brendel – Lovettsville Fire; and Irv Chilcoat – Sterling Fire.
The John C. Carr Memorial Award recognizes recipients for their contributions to the fire service. The 2013 John C. Carr Memorial Award recipients are: Jim Cook – Leesburg Fire; and Melvin Byrnes – Ashburn Fire.
The Clark J. Deener Memorial Award recognizes recipients for their contributions to the emergency medical services. The 2013 Clark J. Deener Memorial Award recipients is: Capt. Daniel Neal, a former volunteer with Lovettsville Fire-Rescue and Loudoun Rescue before becoming a career firefighter and emergency medical technician with LCFR. Neal is an advanced life support provider, an instructor and a quality control officer.
The ceremony was held a week prior to National Volunteer Appreciation Week.
