Have you ever been depressed because of your finances? There’s a feeling of loneliness as well as one of being run over by a Mack truck. It’s not a good feeling. If that happens to you, don’t run away! Pick up the phone and get help. Financial matters are not rocket science; they just seem that way. There is a method to the madness of recovering from financial mayhem, no matter how bad you may think the situation has become. There is a proverb that states “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life” (Proverbs 13:12). This verse states that if you stay stuck where you are without reaching out and talking to someone, you are “deferring hope.” However, once you pick up the phone and see what your options are, you bring “life” to the situation.
The above verse was one of the foundational verses in creating Tree of Life Ministries. Located in Purcellville, Tree of Life strives to meet each person’s need by first giving them hope. The leadership at Tree of Life has developed two new ministries which will help restore hope to many:
Overcoming Financial Difficulty
For those who are struggling with a financial circumstance, sometimes it just takes a little communication and a lot of organization. In Tree of Life’s new Budgeting Class, we hope to help people with just that. People committing to a four week series for one hour per week can learn how to organize their money; including getting out of debt, saving for the future and creating a spending plan that will help them feel free from financial bondage.
The objective of this class is to give participants a Christian perspective of what makes up a budget, of the challenges to staying on budget and a basic understanding of how to set up a budget. Trained volunteers are there to answer any questions and assist folks with establishing their own budget.
The first class began on Thursday, November 7, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. with following classes held on Thursdays, November 14, November 21, and December 5 – no class on Thanksgiving. Pre-registration is required. Class sizes are limited to 10 – 12 participants.
Help with Special Needs
For some, living with a disability is a way of life. If you are a parent of a child with special needs, you know what I mean. Your life centers on that child, and it seems like you never get a break. Tree of Life has an answer: their volunteers want to give you hope and the break that you deserve. On the second and fourth Mondays of each month, Tree of Life’s special needs ministry, called “Still Waters,” meets to restore hope to parents who may have given up that they will ever receive a break. For 90 minutes (6:30 – 8:00 p.m., trained volunteers will engage your children in structured activities that are safe, fun and wholesome, giving you time to shop, run errands, engage with your other children, or just enjoy a time of rest.
Tree of Life was born out of the Church, is supported by the Church and it is doing Christ’s work here on earth. Although our help comes without any religious strings attached, we believe that both the journey of life and the Tree of Life begin with Jesus Christ.
