Dear Purcellville Town Representatives,
Today, Friday June 15, 2012, my wife, my in-laws, and a neighbor had a tag sale. We have conducted tag sales for thirty years now and have NEVER failed to retrieve our signs!
When I positioned them this morning I made certain not to place them where they would impede anyone’s line of sight. They were small in size so as not to distract anyone. They were made of hardboard so as not to blow away and litter the streets. I have used them since 1983.
Someone removed them while our sale was ongoing. No one bothered to stop by and tell us. The public works crew did clean the ditch lines today and may know who took them.
I do not know how much deeper local government needs to reach into my personal life in order to feel satisfied they are micromanaging me enough, but if you are going to Mother me at least have the decency to discuss your actions with me first, please!
I find it offensive that for fifteen years I cannot get anyone to stop the people who run the stop signs at my intersection every day and the major excuse given is lack of personnel and funding, yet someone on staff has the time to be tag sale police, arresting my sale without first reading me my rights.
I had hopes of selling tomorrow but without my signage, guess we are out of business.
What a let down the community has become thanks to the grand bureaucracy in play.
I am glad I grew up when I did and won’t live long enough to see what else you think you need to do to keep me living right!
