At approximately 7:30 a.m., Sunday, July 1, the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a general fire alarm in a two-story commercial building located at 43184 Town Hall Plaza in the community of South Riding.
Fire-Rescue units responded from Dulles South, Arcola, Aldie, and Sterling with assistance from Fairfax County and Dulles airport.
Units arrived to find a water flow alarm sounding, heavy smoke and active fire on the first floor of the structure. Crews quickly affirmed that all potential occupants had evacuated the structure. Crews engaged suppression tactics and brought the fire under control within 20 minutes of arriving on-scene.
The Loudoun County Fire Marshals’ Office investigated the incident and has determined that the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction and it is determined to be accidental in nature, estimating fire loss at approximately $30,000.
There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
