Western Loudoun Volleyball Summer Camp Launched

Western Loudoun Volleyball Club will be hosting its first ever summer camp June 26-29 at Foxcroft School in Middleburg.  The coed, four-day camp will run from 9-5 each day and feature advanced skills training, game strategy and mental approaches to the game.  The program will be managed by WLVBC’s Technical Director, Joe Norton, assistant head coach for the George Mason University men’s volleyball program.    … Continue Reading

Crossfire Wins Second Place

WLVBC U16 Team Crossfire competed in the Baltimore Elite Invitational on March 25. Team Crossfire went 8-0 in pool play, reaching the Gold Bracket Finals.  Crossfire ended in second place, silver finish, after a very hard fought three set match 25-18, 18-25 and 18-20.

Vikings Runner-Up at the State Championship

The Loudoun Valley Vikings are the boy’s runner-up at the VHSL 4A State Indoor Track and Field Championships at Roanoke College.  During the 2015-2016 school year, the Loudoun County School Board approved Indoor Track and Field as a Tier 2 (self-funded) sport.  The seven boys competing scored 48 points, second only to William Fleming’s 53.5 points.

The Western Loudoun Volleyball Club’s U14 Boys Team garnered 3rd place in their first travel tournament of 2017, the Virginia Beach Invitational. This event was held Feb. 18-19 and featured more than 24 teams from the U14 to U18 age group.

The team was second on their net on day one, reached the Gold Bracket, lost a close three set match against eventual champion Coastal VBC, but rebounded to win the consolation match and 3rd place by beating Prolific VBC 25-19, 26-24.

Woodgrove Gymnasts Advance To States

Two Woodgrove High School gymnasts have qualified to advance to the Virginia State Championships Saturday, February 18, at Patriot High School in Nokesville.

Sophomore River Stone placed fourth in the all-around competition at the 1A-5A North Regional Gymnastics Championships at Park View High School on Wednesday, February 8, which earns her a spot competing at States in all four events: vault, bars, beam and floor. Senior Sarah Snare placed 7th on floor at Regionals, which advances her to States competition in that event.

The Regional competition capped a fantastic season for the Woodgrove Varsity Gymnastics team. The team placed first in multi-team regular season meets at Loudoun Valley, Heritage and at home and placed second to Freedom High School at meets there and at Park View High School. The Wolverines broke the school’s all-time high team score at Conferences, where they outscored Freedom to win the Conference 21W Championship.

The Woodgrove High School Gymnastics team for placed first at their home meet. The team competed against squads from Loudoun Valley, Park View and Riverside high schools. Seniors Kaycee Delitta and Sarah Snare were honored at the event for their contributions to the team.

The Wolverines excelled in individual competition as well. Sophomore River Stone placed 1st on vault, 3rd on bars, tied for 1st on floor and placed 2nd all around; senior Sarah Snare placed 6th on bars, tied for 4th on vault, tied for 5th on beam, tied for 1st on floor and placed 4th all around; freshman Jodi Snare placed 7th floor, 3rd on vault and 5th all around; freshman Erin Keane placed 6th on floor and tied for 5th on beam; and sophomore Erin Ramsey placed 6th all around.

Woodgrove Grabs First at Glory Days

The Woodgrove Varsity Gymnastics took first place in the red division of the Glory Days Invitational at Park View High School on Saturday, January 7. Woodgrove competed against Rock Ridge, Potomac Falls, Loudoun Valley and Heritage high schools. Host team Park View came in first in the lower blue division.

Woodgrove sophomore River Stone placed second on vault and bars, fourth on beam, fifth on floor and third all around. Senior Sarah Snare placed first on floor, fourth vault, sixth on bars and fourth all around; freshman Jodi Snare placed sixth on vault.

The team’s home meet, which was postponed due to the snow on Thursday evening, January 5, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 24. The team’s next competition will be on Saturday, January 14, at an invitational in Harrisonburg, followed by a conference match-up on Wednesday, January 18, at Heritage High School in Leesburg.

Deadline Extended for Purcellville Sports Funding Application

The Town of Purcellville has extended the deadline to apply for the Annual Sports League Funding. The new deadline is January 9 at 5:00 p.m.

Applicant organizations must serve the Town of Purcellville area, have citizens of the Town of Purcellville as players, and provide a letter to the Town from the IRS confirming the organization’s tax exempt status in order to be eligible for funding. Priority consideration will be given to sports teams from Purcellville that have an open participation policy where all players are allowed to play.

There is $5,200 allocated in the FY 2016 – 2017 budget. Applications can be found on line at www.purcellvilleva.gov/fundingapplication. Please send your application to, Town of Purcellville, Annual Sports League Funding, 221 S. Nursery Avenue, Purcellville, VA 20132 or e-mail mscoggins@purcellvilleva.gov.
